Volunteers
Honorary Rangers
The Honorary Rangers are a dedicated group of professionals committed to aiding the South African National Parks in terms of conservation work, fund-raising and special projects.
The first group of Honorary Rangers was established in 1964 in the Kruger National Park. The HR group now boasts over 500 members in 23 different regions. Established in 1991, Addo's Honorary Rangers consist of about 51 qualified members with several new applicants in training.
Valuable contributions by the Addo region HR's include fund-raising for the construction of the SASOL Red Bishop Bird Hide, mountain bikes and canoes for ranger patrols and the PPC Discovery Trail.
For more information, contact the Addo Region secretary, Jeremy Lobb.
Student Volunteers
Opportunities exist for interested young people to gain first-hand experience of conservation in a national park. A four-week or eight-week experience allows the student to take part in the day-to-day conservation work of a Big Five national park. No prior experience is necessary, only a keen interest in nature and a willingness to be involved in all aspects of this work. There is a cost involved with this volunteer programme.
